The products of intelligence, whether human or artificial, do not necessarily and inherently ensure safety for individuals, acceptance by society, or sustainability. Essential is not merely more intelligence, but adherence to values that govern its power for what is right and good. Our ability to consistently align our actions, methods, measures, principles, expectations, and outcomes with human values determines how we choose to mobilize intelligence, even when no one is watching. This inner system is critical to act not just intelligently but, most importantly, with integrity.

AI is not immune to the need for such a system.

While much has been done on ethical AI, setting rules does not rule out the need for application. Not only should AI be guided by rules, but it must also constantly adhere to them, functioning not just by its algorithmic power but governed by an operating system that enables its ability to be consistent in actions, methods, measures, principles, expectations, and outcomes with regards to human values, even when no one is watching. For AI to function beneficially, whether for individuals or society, one imperative must prevail: Integrity over Intelligence.

Artificial Integrity is the new AI.
